Description: My “self-portrait” was fun to make. The process took me outside my comfort zone, and I learned so much! My mother helped me come up with ideas, including the cheese cloth, which we had used to mop up paint after another project, for the hair as well as the lace collar in honor of RBG. The theme was my own. This piece is my one and only quilt that will ever mix my activism with quilting (it was hard to include a gun on a quilt). Activism comes from anger and quilting is a solace. Indivisible NOCO is a group I started in November of 2016. A friend gave me a “Vote 2020” hat that I wore every day for the two months up through Election Day. “Persisterhood” is a meaningful t-shirt that two girlfriends and I bought together. The signs are copies of real signs, just four of the many made between 2017-2020. My first was the flag sign, which I carried at the Women’s March in D.C. in 2017, and the last was the BLM sign that hung in my front yard the summer and fall of 2020. I left the name of our former Senator off the other two signs because I helped make him insignificant.
