Description: Look at that queen strutting her flower-power maxi skirt in her Dresden Garden. It is a day to let the sunshine in, make love not war, hop aboard the friendship train, and just be groovy! Oh, things ain’t what they used to be, sweet memories from the 70’s. The music, the friendships, the dances, the hair dos, the platform shoes, fringed vests, ponchos, and the ever so popular polyester. I was given a box of polyester double-knit fabric from a beautiful, generous lady, Mrs. Sims in January 2020. She wondered if I could use any of it. At first glance, I loved the colors, but I was accustomed to using 100% cotton for my quilts unless it was for a crazy quilt. As I thought about it, my mind went back to the 1970’s, a very special, enjoyable time in my life. I enjoyed the “look” of the 70’s, the music of the 70’s, Soul Train, high school, the various hair styles, the Youth Unlimited Community Christian Club where we experienced singing Gospel music, theatre, traveling, Bible Study, retreats, just a whole lot of fun, friends, family, and fellowship. Our dresses and jumpsuits were made of the royal blue used for the flowerpots. This may be the beginning of a series as there is so much to learn about polyester. Stay tuned.
