Description: This quilt started as a quilt-as-you-go quilt I saw in a magazine. When I finished sewing the strips together, I felt the quilt was not finished. As I thought about this last year, I knew I wanted to make a statement about the events of 2020. To me the tree and all of tree’s memories, good and bad, are a part of Black history in the United States. The tree witnessed the numerous lynchings of innocent black people in this country and provides shade for black children to read and learn about their world. The poem reads: Ghosts of the Past? I remember the blood, The fear, The hate, The death. I remember it all and I cry. The Tree
