Description: Located in Montezuma County near Cortez, Colorado, this building represents a part of what is thought to be the largest cliff dwellings in North America and to be among the world’s greatest archeological treasures. Built near the end of the 12th century and abandoned in the 13th century, it was “discovered” by white settlers in 1888. Erected in the cliffs of Mesa Verde (Spanish for Green Table), Ancestral Pueblo people lived on the mesa top for approximately 600 years.
