Title: Connie Turner – Denver, CO – “Winks Lodge”

Description: My inspiration for wanting to create this quilt was the trip the Guild took to Lincoln Hills several years ago. Winks Lodge (1928-1965) was part of the Lincoln Hills Country Club resort located near Pinecliffe, Colorado. It catered to African-American vacationers who had few options for travel and leisure due to the restrictions of segregation. The Civil Rights Act of 1964, which ended legal segregation, was instrumental in making it, and other vacation areas African-Americans created, obsolete. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
