Description: The pattern for this quilt was designed for Social Justice Sewing Academy (SJSA) by Sam Hunter of Hunter’s Design Studio (with floral design by Maria Cardenas), based on an original quilt block by SJSA Youth Artivist Alondra Mendoza. This quilt identifies the ways women—particularly women of color—are trapped by legislation and misconceptions that don’t allow them to fully realize their potential. This quilt also symbolizes the 100th Anniversary (2020) of the Women’s Suffrage Movement. It was on 26 August 1920 that legislation was passed which granted women the right to vote.
