Title: Joanne Walton – Arvada, CO - “Amanda Gorman”

Description: I was so intrigued with Amanda Gorman when she presented herself at the inauguration of our 45th President, Joe Biden and Vice-President, Kamala Harris. Amanda is such a presence with her spoken and written words of truth. Her voice that day conveyed the message of the “possibility of unity and reconciliation.” In creating my 12.5” block, I used an image of Amanda Gorman found on the internet called, “teach me to draw Amanda.” Her hair is made from woven felt and the face is a hand-dyed fabric. It is machine appliquéd. I quilted the background before adding the face and features.
