Description: As I thought about the title of the project, I somehow didn’t care for it. I added “Then and Now”, and it became more realistic to me. Ideas began to formulate. Well Now! I researched the title and found that it was a 1942 jazz standard with music by Mercer Ellington, lyrics by Ted Persons and performed by Mercer’s dad, the great Duke Ellington, and his band. I began to list items to consider and realized that I could go on forever and never get to my quilting project because of the indecision over the items on my list which was getting longer and longer. Oh, what do! This became a history lesson ranging from the earth and its inhabitants, plant life, animal habitat, foodstuff, the way humans live their lives, use of objects, inventions, and I could go on forever. Covid-19 has also made me stop and observe many more changes around me. Also, a visit to the Underground House in our hometown helped me visualize how many things have changed throughout the years from my childhood to now and will keep changing. The visit also helped me choose some of the items I am presenting, especially after viewing the quilt on the bed. I have had experiences with some of these items. New info, new quilt.
